Jacinta-rai Ridgeway-Maahs is a modern Indigenous artist who shares narratives through her art, echoing the traditions of her ancestors. As a proud Worimi woman working on Butchulla country, she incorporates earthy tones alongside lively peach pinks, pastels, and vibrant colors. Her inspiration stems from her connection to land, community, culture, life, and family, creating pieces that resonate across diverse cultures.

For Jacinta-rai, creating art is a form of meditation. With each symbol, dash, and dot, she finds tranquility and encourages it in others. She is deeply committed to the idea that children are our future, focusing on education, equality, environmental stewardship, kindness, and unity.

Drawing inspiration from the colors of the AIATSIS Map of Indigenous Australia, "We Are One" celebrates the diversity and unity of Australia's First Nations peoples, highlighting the various communities throughout the land. Despite our different ancestries, we are united in our journey towards collaboration and harmony. This artwork honors the land where we reside, love, and learn, and it pays tribute to the First Nations peoples as the original custodians of this land, affirming that it always was and always will be theirs.
